The Charles Ripper Collection contains illustrative material from seven published titles, as well as miscellaneous sketches for the Washington Book Fair (dated 10/27/1951) and a typescript for an unpublished article. Charles Lewis Ripper was born in Pittsburgh, PA, October 28, 1929 to an ornamental iron worker and an art teacher. Inheriting a talent for art, he studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and had illustrated his first book before reaching the age of twenty. His signature inscription, "That path of nature declared most interesting is but the path most patiently observed." sums up his feelings of the outdoors.
